Job Summary
The Division of General Pediatrics, University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Registered Nurse at the South Main Clinic ( SMC ) that shares our vision and passion for caring for children and adolescents. The RN plays a critical role on our team facilitating the efficient delivery of patient care while supporting the professional and academic mission of the continuity clinic for pediatric residency.

The pediatric clinic at SMC cares for a disproportionate number of the county’s poor children. Over 80% of the children served are from families who only speak Spanish and 25% are uninsured. With over 10,500 pediatric patient visits per year, residents are challenged to provide culturally-aware primary care to a high volume practice that maximizes the use of the WIC program, a county immunization clinic, Medicaid eligibility workers, a pharmacy voucher program for uninsured children and a Reach Out and Read literacy program. We also p! rovide care for a large number of medically complex children i! n a collaborative medical home model.

This is a full time position and the successful candidate must be willing to work M-F 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, some flexibility required. This position is responsible for delivering professional nursing care to patients by utilizing strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status; implement clinical nursing interventions and evaluate patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes and ensure a safe and comprehensive care environment.

Responsibilities

1. Identifies and assesses problems through patient assessment and interactions; and evaluates actual or potential patient health problems.

2. Assesses, plans and implements interventions for solving patient care problems.

3. Formulates care plans for specific patients and documents the nursing process in patient’s record.

4. Evaluates patient response to interventions and modifies plan of care as needed to achieve h! ealth care goals.

5. Develops and participates in educating patients, their families, or significant others about care programs.

6. Initiates patient care meetings with the health care team to revise the plan of care as the patient’s condition warrants.

7. Maintains a safe and comprehensive patient care environment.

8. Provides guidance and direction to members of the health care team to ensure quality patient care.

9. Keeps current on advances in nursing care by participating in educational programs.

10. Provides and oversees direct patient care in accordance with established nursing protocol and physician’s orders.

11. Utilizes knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precaution; and initiates appropriate interventions in crisis situations.

12. Participates in total quality management to positively effects patient and system outcomes to improve care.

13. Supervi! se and mentor Medical Assistants assigned to work in clinic.

Minimum Qualifications

Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah or equivalency required. *If licensed in a compact state a Utah State license must be obtained within 30 days of hire. Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or must obtain one within one month of hire required.

The incumbent must possess fluent Spanish language skills.

Strong organizational and leadership skills as well as demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required.

Some positions may require additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS ), Pediatric Advanced Life Support ( PALS ), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program ( NRP ) within one year of hire.

Preferences

Two years relevant work experience in community based pediatrics or primary care.
