The Nurse Prac! titioner for Neurosurgery will be involved in direct patient care and coordination of care duties related to the Neurosurgery Section of a complexity level 1 Surgery Service. The duties will include assessment of patients and clinical logistics prior to invasive procedures, operating room assistance during procedures and assisting with follow-up and coordination of care between Neurosurgery and related specialties. The VA Salt Lake City receiving area includes patients residing within in the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System catchment area and the 5 state area covered by VISN19. The incumbent will be professionally responsible to the Associate Chief Nursing Service (ACNS) Medicine/Surgery and clinically and administratively responsible to the Chief of Neurosurgery Service.

The neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner will be fully qualified and certified to function in both clinical and coordination of care roles alongside a full time neurosurgeon. The individual will display a high level of expertise and responsibility for clinical, consultative, patient education and administrative activities related to the care of neurosurgery patients. These include, but are not limited to histories & physicals, pre-op and post-op care management in clinics and inpatient units. The incumbent will screen consults, operate clinics and address patient contacts within the parameters of his/her licensure and approved scope of practice. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Citizen of the Unit! ed States.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approv! ed by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Nurse Practitioners. A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain a full ! and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or other nationally recognized certifying body. (The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.)
