To improve educational and research opportunities in Medical ! Informatics. To increase the knowledge and capabilities of personnel in clinical IT/computing.
Consultant-level professional experienced in all aspects of medical informatics and its use in improving healthcare deliver for patients, providers and other clinical and business staff. Encompasses full knowledge required within the medical informatics discipline. Typically designs and develops approaches that are implemented by others. Is able to function independently. Provides technical and professional guidance and leadership to peers and has gained national prominence in the industry.
Job Essentials
Leads and independently participates in research (contracts, grants, research centers, etc.) and in solutions development evaluations.
Collaborates with and as needed arbitrates with and makes recommendations to the assigned stakeholder groups (Clinical Programs, Clinical Services, SCO, etc.) in the evaluation, selection and adoption of both in! ternally developed and vended solutions.
Defines the ! IS guiding principles and standards and is responsible to champion them with all stakeholder groups.
Leads other medical informatics personnel and collaborates with other key stakeholders in the development, integration, testing and implementation of new and enhanced information systems solutions (internally developed or 3rd party acquisitions).
Advances the use of IT in medicine by collaborating with development teams and defines the standards and processes.
Participates in IS planning by proactively anticipating needs, looking for innovative solutions and collaborates with other leaders in defining the strategic plans for both IS and collaborates with key clinical/business leaders in creating strategic plans for their Clinical Program/Clinical Service. Mentors and coaches other medical informatics personnel.
Leads and mentors teams (research, evaluation, development, etc.).
Collaborates with key clinical/business partners in do! cumenting and recommending workflow changes and provides leadership and mentoring oversight with other IS resources in the documentation of both the functional and technical designs needed to support the clinical and business requirements.
Acts as a source for theoretical/practical knowledge of Medical Information standards (e.g. X12, HL7, ICD, etc.) and participates in and collaborates with external entities including university affiliations.
Participates in the prioritization and management of resource allocation for key strategic initiatives with both internal IS and clinical/business stakeholder groups.
Leads efforts to identify and prioritize external opportunities to leverage Intermountainâs intellectual property and to promote the use of Intermountainâs knowledge into revenue generating solutions.
This position will work with confidential and proprietary information that requires a signed IT Employee Invention and Confidentiali! ty Agreement upon hire.
Minimum Requirements
A PhD in! an Medical informatics, Nursing Informatics, Nursing MD, or other field related to medical or nursing informatics and 10 years previous medical informatics experience OR non-medical PhD, MS or BS degree in healthcare related field with 15 years professional medical informatics experience. Intermountain Healthcare verifies both degree attainment and educational institution accreditation following an offer of employment. (An internationally awarded degree may require additional certification and/or years of experience.)
National prominence in medical informatics (e.g. publications, chairs within the medical informatics field, etc)
Demonstrated high proficiency in research and development
Demonstrated proficiency in presenting information to other groups
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to find creative solutions to new IT issues with no supervision
Demonstrated proficiency in programming, database design, and! /or system architecture design
Demonstrated knowledge and practical use of medical information standards
