The Retail Pharmacy Manager, under the direction of and in conjunction with the Pharmacy Director, is responsible for facilitating processes and procedures that advance pharmacy participation in multidisciplinary patient care in their service area. The Pharmacy Manager is a leader in providing continuous quality improvement and educational programs, and has the opportunity to supervise pharmacy technicians, interns, students, volunteers and residents. The Retail Pharmacy Manager is held in high esteem for providing high quality pharmaceutical care to patients, customers, ph! ysicians and staff.

Job Essentials

Prepar! ation & Dispensing: Labels, processes and dispenses appropriate medication and quantities as ordered. Included duties: Analyze each prescription for clarity and completeness, pricing, consulting with the physician to clarify unclear or incomplete prescriptions, label and dispense the appropriate medication and quantity required. Ensures distribution services are consistent with departmental policy and procedure.

Leadership: Trains and supervises new employees including pharmacy technicians and other supportive staff as needed in order to maintain the accuracy and quality of pharmaceutical services. Ensures that supportive personnel (including students in experiential programs) are working in a manner consistent with scope of practice.

Education & Training: Provides accurate drug information to other health professionals and patients to assure safe and appropriate use. Assists physicians, nurses, patients, and other personnel in understand! ing formulary compliance in various health plans.

Medication Therapy Management: Actively develops relationships of trust with providers and participates in the multidisciplinary team to provide feasible therapeutic recommendations and alternatives that improve patient drug therapy. This may include changes in drug, dosage form, dose, route, dosage interval, and duration. Monitors physician orders to ensure safe, correct, and appropriate use of medications. Monitors, documents, and evaluates drug elements and adverse medication events.

Cost & Inventory Control: Participates in department cost savings initiatives. Monitors pharmaceutical inventory and exercises strict inventory control through diligent tracking of all substances. Participates in organization surveys (Joint Commission or other applicable regulatory agencies) or audit inspections.

Regulatory Compliance: Completes all regulatory and compliance training, and ensure! s documentation of regulatory requirements is clear and complete. Is kn! owledgeable and compliant with state and federal laws, regulations, pharmacy policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures. Ensures staff is educated and compliant.

Service Excellence: Provides professional, engaging, service excellence to all patients, and healthcare providers with whom they work in accordance with Healing Commitments. Ensures patients are aware of costs and payment and financial assistance options associated with their prescriptions. Responsible to meet or exceed customer service measures.

Quality: Maintains quality in the pharmacy through completion of quality control check logs and other quality documentation. Takes responsibility for assuring quality improvement projects are developed, implemented and completed.

System Approach: is responsible for support of clinic/hospital and system directives, including clinical, compliance, business operations, and customer service and to work with pharmacy ! and/or operations leadership to communicate progress.

Management: Responsible to ensure that all pharmacy programs and other business functions are consistent with policies, procedures and standard operating procedures. Manages the day-to-day operations of the outpatient pharmacy. Leads development and participates in attaining department and team goals. Assists in preparing and analyzing budgets, monitoring workloads patterns, and participates in system/departmental bench-marking efforts.

Professional Practice : Ensures pharmacists and technicians in pharmacy are driven to maintain excellence in clinical and practice knowledge. Works collaboratively with physicians, clinic managers, and other healthcare professionals to assure understanding and adherence to formularies, understanding of new drug therapies, and system initiatives (both clinical and operational).

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy. Intermountain verifies both degree attainment and educational institution accreditation following an offer of employment.

Current license as a Pharmacist by State in which one practices & controlled substance license

Current knowledge of state and federal regulations and statutes regarding the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of approved drugs, controlled substances and investigation agents

Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal relations skills with all health-care providers.

BLS for healthcare providers

Physical Requirements

Hearing/listening, manual dexterity, seeing.

Preferred Qualification

Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy

Specializes in a disease-state specialty such as asthma, diabetes, hypertension, or anti-coagula! tion

One or more years of supervisory experience

Strong commitment to patient care and willing to provide clinical services, such as immunizations and health screenings.
